Whom do we speak to the most during a day, week, month, year or even during our lifetime? Pondering over this question, some of us will say, I talk to my mother the most, while some set of people will say to their spouses, some will say to their friends etc.
We have someone else who is closest to us and we continue speaking to it even when we are asleep. Either we are in our sense or we are out of senses, we continue our chit chat with it.
And it is no one else but our own “MIND”. It’s called “THE MIND” and when I add THE to the word MIND, it is to stress on the power that this word possess in our life.
So, after knowing the answer to the introductory question, I am sure you all have again spoken to your MIND and would have spoken to it and said “How true!! Its really you whom I speak to the most.
So, when we know the answer, do we then know what in fact MIND is? Isn’t it the one who give us the sense of our identity or is it not the one who is the driver of our daily life, driving all our actions, thoughts – be it of happiness or desperation.
Mind can be our best companion and it can be our worst companion as well. To make it your worst companion, we don’t need to put any effort. We just need to keep listening to the mind and acts upon what it says.
Load of effort is required to make the mind our best companion. One of the recipes to make this happen and what I follow is – Postpone negative thoughts and act asap on positive thoughts
For any negative thoughts take a pause, don’t act immediately, postpone the action for say 5-10 minutes. During these 5-10 minutes interval, let’s think about the thought given by mind and evaluate the pros and cons. If the pros about the thought is more than the cons then consider to put the thought into action or else just trash the thought.
To give an example, let’s take a negative scenario first – Suppose you are having an altercation with your boss and you having a thought to resign immediately. So, postpone this thought of resigning and put your intelligence in thinking the pros and cons of this action. The good side of the mind will definitely give you the answer What to do in this scenario. And this definitely will be the correct answer and correct thing to do in this scenario.
If we take a positive scenario, suppose you come across a blind person trying to cross a road in a heavy traffic, I am 100 percent sure, the immediate thought in most of our mind will be to help the blind person to cross the road. So, this is a positive thought and we don’t need to put a second thought in offering our help to this person. So, we should act immediately in this case.
So, I hope, this is a good guidance to make the mind our best companion.
